|
Day 1. Quito
Arrival at Quito's international airport. Quito, capital of Ecuador dating from the 16th century, is located 2850 m. above sea level. Flanked by Pichincha volcano and other high mountains and only 22 kilometers south of the equator, this charming colonial city has a pleasant spring like climate. Once ancient capital of the Inca Empire, Quito is now a true jewel of colonial architecture and was declared cultural world heritage by the UNESCO in 1978. Overnight in hotel in the capital.
Days 2 & 3. Otavalo market and Indian villages
(2hrs drive) Exploration of Otavalo's Indian market, certainly the most interesting crafts market of all Latin America: colorfoul hand made textiles, hammocks, herbs, baskets, potteries and lots more will attract our attention. During these days we shall also visit some typical Indian villages of this region among which Cotacachi is known for its fine traditional leather work. During a hike in the area we discover this beautiful landscape. Nights in friendly hotel in Otavalo area.
Days 4 to 7. Amazonian Jungle Expedition
(7hrs drive) Today begins a great adventure towards and through the Amazonian jungle: white water rafting on Rio Napo, exploration of caves, hikes through the Amazonian jungle in the area of Tena and unforgettable encounters with the fauna and a wild and exuberant flora. This sector of the Amazonian jungle shelters a very great biodiversity. Nights in jungle cabins.
Days 8 to 10. Sportive Excursions in and around Banos
(4hrs drive) Heading for Banos, a small and friendly town famous for its hot springs. Its location at an altitude of 1800m gives it a spring like climate all year round. During our two day stay, you may choose between many different sportive activities during which you will discover this beautiful region. Hiking, rafting, mountain biking and horseback riding through tropical forest as well as mountain climbing in the Tungurahua Mountains (for experienced climbers only) are some of the numerous options we can offer. For each activity mentioned above you are accompanied by a professional guide. Nights in comfortable inn in Banos.
Day 11. Cotopaxi National Park
The road today (1hr) brings us back to the north through landscapes of rare beauty in the mountains of the Andes: incredible panoramas and typical scenes of everyday life of the inhabitants of the country. Latacunga, capital of the province of Cotopaxi, welcomes us for lunch. Entry and hiking in the Cotopaxi National Park. Night in basic refuge or camp.
Day 12. Cotopaxi Volcano and National Park
Exploration of the National Park and magnificent views of Cotopaxi Volcano (5897m.), the second highest node and highest active volcano of Ecuador. Encounter with the fauna and flora of the region. Night in basic refuge or camp.

On our way towards the airport of Quito (1hr drive) for a flight to Cuenca. Founded in 1557, Cuenca is the third-largest city of the country and certainly the prettiest of all! Its Indian markets and its colonial buildings confer it an irresistible charm. We visit some of among the most beautiful colonial buildings of the country and explore the famous Inca site Ingapirca located 50 km away. Night in a hotel in Cuenca. Flight back to Quito, last night in hotel in the capital.

On our way towards Quito (1hr drive). Transfer to the hotel. Free stay in the capital for the next two days. Multiple cultural optional visits are proposed: Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana, Museo Guayasamin, Museo de arte e Historia, Museo de Arte Colonial, Monasterio de San Francisco... This stay in the beautiful capital is on your own and thus entirely to your free disposal. We hand out a complete file on Quito and its attractions so you know exactly what, how and when to visit these. |
Day 15. Transfer to Quito Airport
Transfer to the airport of Quito. End of the adventure.
